So it's been four weeks exactly since we (well, I) had Owen. And what a four weeks they have been! Not to bore any of you with the gory details of the birth, I'll just say it was Intense. And if anyone wants the details, let's go for coffee. I'd love a chance to talk about it, and I can finally enjoy coffee again!
The first week of caring for Owen was rough. Due to his size I had a lot of swelling so I had to remain side-lying for the entire first week of his life. Brant was almost like a single father during this time, and he was amazing. Absolutely incredible. This also made breastfeeding rough, since I couldn't sit up to nurse, so we had to supplement with formula for a little bit. It really broke my heart, and I'm not exaggerating. Luckily we found an organic formula, which made it a little easier to accept.
After the first week breastfeeding was still rough, so we saw a lactation consultant, and I am now pumping. Though he's only nursing for comfort at this stage, I am so happy to say he is getting fed exclusively breast milk, and when we nurse he latches on well. I thought of switching to primarily breast feeding, but I go back to work so soon he'll have to feed from a bottle anyways.
He's so sweet, you guys...you have no idea. And although I really, really, REALLY miss sleeping, I look at him and see he's totally worth it. 100%.
