It was such a busy day for Brant and myself (and we knew it would be). We started with our second of six childbirth classes, from 11am to 2pm, then went straight to the baby shower, at 3pm. Both events were potlucks, so we got to sample yummy food from different folks all day long!
We arrived at Karin's house and went straight to the backyard, where the shower was being held. Karin had set up vases of fresh flowers from around her house at various tables, and Colleen had set up game and craft stations at each table, as well as a meal roster sheet, and a phone list.
Vanessa took this shot of Brant @ the shower.
Super Cute, huh?
Though some couldn't make it at the last minute, we had a great turnout. Work friends, social friends, and family alike came. The day was so beautiful and peaceful, and we were so fortunate to be outside in the 85 degree weather! Karin's house is out by TESC's Organic Garden, so it's covered in trees. This made it degrees cooler than it could have been, which made the temperature perfect, with the sun filtering down through the trees. Later in the day, the mosquitoes showed up, which was...not fun, for any of us. In the end, that's a big part of what ended the party, some 3 1/3 hours later.
Things I loved:
I really loved that it was a potluck. We had asked each guest to bring a particular kind of dish, so that we wouldn't end up with all desserts, or all main dishes. In the end, we all fed each other, and the spread was delisious and well-rounded. Highlights included Karin's gluten-free coconut milk chocolate cake, Candace's pasta/veggie salad, and Dawne's yummy chocolate cupcakes. I also really enjoyed Vanessa's veggie spring rolls. There were much more yummy treats too...too many to name!
I also loved the fact that it was a little co-ed. It was outside, and designed for both Brant and myself. So we had some men there. My dad came, my little brother came, and so did our good friend Chris. It was really important to me that the shower celebrate Brant too, since he's doing such amazing supportive work during this time! I know all the hard stuff will be up to me (lol!!!), but I just wanted him to be honored as well.
I loved my friends and family mingling. I loved seeing my Mom there, at her first baby shower as Grandma. I loved that the people we love came and supported us and showed us nothing but love.
Thanks to everyone who came. It really was a wonderful day. And thanks for the wonderful, thoughtful gifts. We couldn't do this without you, and your gifts really help us afford to start this little one off to a great start.
Much love.
